eclipse

Watched a movie today... It was "The Twilight Saga: Eclipse"
It begins with a famous poem, recited by Bella, "Fire and Ice" by Robert Frost:

Some say the world will end in fire,
Some say in ice.
From what I've tasted of desire
I hold with those who favor fire.
But if it had to perish twice,
I think I know enough of hate
To say that for destruction ice
Is also great
And would suffice.

The poem was  to set the mood for this story, as Bella is torn between two lovers, Edward, a  teenage vampire, whose physical temperature is cooler than the average human's 98.6 degrees, and Jacob, a warewolf , whose temperature is so warm he never has to wear a shirt.

A very strong love triangle. Bella is supposed to be inlove with both of them and either way you choose the characters make lovely pairs...

Bella and Jacob... Then  Bella and Edward...

But of course i like Bella and Edward the most... Who cares if the story is fictional. They say “Eclipse”, David Slade’s contribution to Summit Entertainment’s juggernaut “Twilight” franchise came in first at the boxoffice over the weekend with $69 million, and $161 million since it opened on Wednesday earlier in the week, according to studio estimates. “Eclipse’s” five-day total of $161 million.
And  there's still one lovely vampire pair in addition...

Plus the fight between the newborn vampire army and the warewolves with the Cullen
clan. The story opens with the revelation thatSeattle, Washington is being plagued by a
string of murders, which Edward suspects is caused by a new vampire that is unable to
control its thirst for human blood. As Edward and Bella apply to colleges, Bella explains
to Edward her desire to see her friend,Jacob Black, a werewolf. Although Edward fears

for her safety, Bella insists that neither Jacob nor his wolf pack would ever harm her, and she begins visiting him occasionally. On one of these visits, Jacob tells Bella that
he is in love with her and wants her to choose him instead of Edward, but Bella says
she just sees him as a friend. To that, Jacob forcibly kisses her and she reacts by
punching him in the face, breaking her hand while not even leaving a scratch on him. Meanwhile, Alice Cullen has a vision that Victoria, a vampire who is hunting Bella for
revenge, has returned to Forks. A few days later, Edward proposes to Bella and, despite
harboring an aversion to marriage, she accepts.
Bella and the Cullens soon realize that the Seattle murders are being committed by an "army" of newborn vampires, controlled by Victoria. The Cullens join forces with the wolf pack to combat this threat. As everyone else prepares for battle, Edward, Bella and Jacob camp in the mountains, hidden during the battle, where they are later joined bySeth Clearwater, a young wolf pack member, to wait out the fight.
In the morning, Jacob becomes upset when he overhears Edward and Bella discussing their engagement and threatens to join the fight and get himself killed. Bella stops Jacob by kissing him, and she comes to realize that she is in love with him as well. During the battle, Victoria tracks Edward's scent to Bella's forest hiding place, and Edward is forced to fight. Edward manages to decapitate Victoria and her vampire army is destroyed. Afterwards, Bella explains to Jacob that while she loves him, her love for Edward is greater. After receiving a wedding invitation from Edward, Jacob runs away in his wolf form to escape his heartbreak over Bella's decision to become a vampire.

An intriguing lovestory to deal with, the scenery was great and the plot was good as well as the characters so that it deserves it's boxoffice success. As far as entertainment is concerned what more can anyone ask for...

It's saturday once more... feels like a long time since my last blog. My last two weeks sked been busy at work... Well , now is my time for a bit of a break and somehow do some blogs... really missed a lot.
Glad to have some avocado in store... looks good enough for a nice shake. It's in season right now and it's one of my favorites.

Here's my recipe:

1 ripe avocado, peeled and pitted
2 cups ice (16 to 20 ice cubes)
1/2 cup fat-free sweetened condensed milk
1/2 to 1 cup cold non-fat milk

Scoop avocado flesh into blender.  Add milk, ice and sugar to desired taste. Blend until pureed.

Now that's the best I can think of about avocados. But there's obviously a lot of recipes for it. Guacamole, salads, soups, breakfast, and desserts. Still i love my avocado shake.

As for nutritional facts it is said that avocados provide nearly 20 essential nutrients, including fiber, potassium, Vitamin E, B-vitamins and folic acid. They also act as a "nutrient booster" by enabling the body to absorb more fat-soluble nutrients, such as alpha and beta-carotene and lutein, in foods that are eaten with the fruit.

Back to School

Vacation is over and it's school time once more. One thing very exciting about the opening of classes are new uniforms, bags, shoes, as well as all the other stuffs. Shopping comes in and we tend to buy just for the sake of buy. Really makes such a magical moment to look forward to every school year. Maybe it is the prospect of new experiences and seeing old friends. Well, I guess everyone of us has had those experiences.

I myself was not able to resist buying new things for the opening of classes and here are a few of back to school stuff I managed to gather. It's a black bag I luckily bought for half the original price and a coin purse which I don't really need that much but just giving in to the feeling of wanting it. Haha! School is in and a student must be ready so that part of it is boosting our self-confidence with new things and the idea of accomplishing more than what we have achieved in the previous year. What else can I say but goodluck kids! See you all in school...

laptop

Our home computer brand is asus brand. It our first computer and glad to have choosen it following a good friend's advice. I actually didn't have any idea on what is best to buy. Until now I really don't have much idea about computers. This friend has been dealing with computers for a long time so that he was able to share with  me some insights about some computer brands. And since I am planning to buy a laptop in the future, I wish to buy something of the same brand. Hope to buy it someday soon....

The one on the picture is a seemingly crafted by nature itself, the Eee PC™ Seashell draws its inspiration for opalescent seashells. Its cover comes in two types of special textures: one features a glossy in-mold roller-crafted exterior, while the other features a matte-painted latticework finish. The Eee PC Seashell can be taken anywhere because it is so light and compact. With the sleek curves and smooth lines of its shell, it'll garner attention no matter where you are.I think it is their newest model since it got the 2010 product design award.

Not that I wish to buy the latest model. I think that would depend on the budget. It's just that I do believe it is one of the best products available. For more details you can find out from:  http://usa.asus.com/product.aspx?P_ID=4pE8iOzApxXWWAvF

Among the newest in terms of medical technology and the best example of technology for business and health  is "Nuga Best." I have been hearing the name for long but never once got interested because I never did understand the two words. Until one of my colleagues managed her way to one of its outlets offering free services. orange juice drink

When I was just a child I was always sick and the doctor would say  I lack vitamin c. Now I just learned that vitamin c still has a lot of importance in our lives as adults or on the growing up stage. Here's what I found:

Clear arteries are super important  for our bodies because it would mean being problem-free.  The hardening and narrowing of arteries  can lead to heart disease, heart attack, or stroke. To keep your arteries wide open and pliable for years to come, you need foods rich in both vitamin C and other pipe-friendly antioxidants.

Similar studies have found that vitamin C may help protect your cardiovascular system in numerous other ways as well, from improving the functioning of the cells lining your arteries; to thinning your blood, thereby reducing the risk of clots; to quelling bad-for-your-heart inflammation.

http://www.realage.com/tips/sip-this-juice-for-clearer-arteries?ha=1&eid=7198&memberid=6171244

Other sources of vitamin c include guava, red sweet pepper, green pepper, grapefruit juice, strawberries, broccoli, sweetpotato, brussels sprouts, cantaloupe, vegetable juice cocktail, papaya,  tomato juice, cauliflower, pineapple, mango, etc.

Side Effects

Vitamin C toxicity is very rare, because the body cannot store the vitamin. However, amounts greater than 2,000 mg/day are not recommended because such high doses can lead to stomach upset and diarrhea.
Too little vitamin C can lead to signs and symptoms of deficiency, including:

  • Dry and splitting hair
  • Gingivitis (inflammation of the gums)
  • Bleeding gums
  • Rough, dry, scaly skin
  • Decreased wound-healing rate
  • Easy bruising
  • Nosebleeds
  • Weakened tooth enamel
  • Swollen and painful joints
  • Anemia
  • Decreased ability to fight infection
  • Possible weight gain because of slowed metabolism
A severe form of vitamin C deficiency is known as scurvy, which mainly affects older, malnourished adults.

Caesar Salad

The famous Caesar Salad was invented by the Tijuanan chef Caesar Cardini in the 1920's. Heard of it but never seen nor tasted any. The name is unique plus an interesting origin. It even looks inviting. After a mad rush at his restaurant, he had to make due with what was left, and hence Caesar salad was born. In 1948 the Cardini family trademarked the original recipe. I guess I'd like to try it one day.

Ingredients:

1 large head romaine lettuce, torn into bite size pieces
1 cup extra virgin olive oil
3 cups French bread, cubed
2 large cloves garlic, peeled
8 anchovy fillets
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon dry mustard
2 tablespoons freshly squeezed lemon juice
1 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
1 teaspoon coarse sea salt
2 coddled eggs - see how to coddle eggs below
½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
¼ cup shaved or shredded Parmesan cheese
Fry bread cubes in some of the olive oil, as needed. Toss until crispy and golden. Set aside to drain on paper towels.
Crush the garlic cloves and salt into a paste in a large wooden salad bowl, using the back of a wooden salad serving spoon.
Add the anchovies and do the same. Add the Worcestershire sauce, dry mustard, lemon juice and pepper. Whisk in the remaining oil until thoroughly combined.
Add the grated Parmesan cheese and whisk again until combined.
Add the shredded lettuce and toss thoroughly. Add the coddled eggs and toss until the lettuce is coated with the egg. Top with shaved or shredded Parmesan cheese. Serve
Serves 4-6

ice cream

I like ice cream. Yes I do!
One scoop for me?
No! Make it two!
Hmmm two scoops of ice cream,
I want more
How about three?
No, make that four!
1, 2, 3, 4,
Splat! "oh no! It's on the floor!"

Most of us love ice cream and somehow I got the urge to surf about it. I got this ice cream poem somewhere , unfortunately the author is unknown. Somehow the idea fits and I just love it. Well, it's Sunday and I can't think of anything to blog about. Besides, I need to create rhymes and jingles for school nutrition contest and it boggles me. Maybe that is the reason why I thought of ice cream. Atleast it is something pleasant to think about... hmmmm.

Is ice cream bad for the health? Well, Here is what i found:

Below are 7 of the most common harmful synthetic chemicals found in conventional ice cream.

  1. Acetiel C17: An aniline dye that is used in the manufacture of plastic, rubber and pharmaceuticals. Aniline is a colorless, oily and poisonous benzene derivative. It is popular as an additive for ice cream because it has a tasty cherry flavor.
  2. Amyl Acetate: A powerful paint solvent that is commonly used as artificial banana flavoring.
  3. Benzyl Acetate: A nitrate solvent that is widely used as artificial strawberry flavoring.
  4. Butyrlaldehyde: An ingredient that is popular in cement. It is used as an artificial nut flavoring in conventional ice cream.
  5. Diethylglycol: A chemical that has emulsifier properties. It is popular for replacing eggs. It is also found in antifreeze. Maybe this is why it has the word “die” as a part of its name!
  6. Ethyl Acetate: A chemical that is popular for cleaning leather. Its vapors are known to be harmful to the lung, liver and heart. It is common in conventional ice cream because it gives it a pineapple-like flavor.
  7. Pepernial: A chemical that is popular for killing lice. Pepernial is used in ice cream to mimic the vanilla flavor because it has a vanilla-like taste.
Before buying ice cream make sure you read the ingredients list. If it contains some of the 7 chemicals above, you may want buy a different one. You should also avoid ice creams that have gums, stabilizers, artificial flavors and strange fancy words that you can’t understand listed as ingredients.

Ugh! I didn't expect to find that. But i don't think I could love Ice cream less. Foolish me... I guess I'd just be more carefull and read the contents.

horseradish tree

Moringa Oleifera is the scientific name of malunggay

My mother planted a few malunggay trees in our yard. I grew up with it. But I must admit I took for granted  its great medicinal value until now. You see I have a problem with my bowel movement since I was young. Then, there was a time I sorted to drinking tea to solve the problem. For a while I was content until I noticed it was affecting my ulcers, and so I stopped. I am working in the city so I very seldom include malunggay in my meals. Again, when my mother lived with us here in the city I get to eat malunggay  and noticed it helped my digestion and bowel movement. I am so amazed because it was all so natural so I decided to do a research on its medicinal values and here is what I found:

  • The young malunggay leaves is the one being boiled and drink as tea to increase breastmilk. Malunggay is now available in drug store and online store in tea and capsule form .

malunggay leaves are excellent sources of vitamins A, B, C, D, E, amino acids, cystiene and minerals such as calcium, phosphorous, iron and magnesium. Nutritionists claims that gram for gram, malunggay has seven times the vitamin C found in oranges, four times the vitamin A found in carrots, four times the calcium and two times the protein found in milk and three times the potassium found in banana.    It is called a “miracle vegetable.”
  • The seeds of malunggay contain 40 percent oil, which is considered excellent massage oil because it has good anti-oxidant properties and shelf life ranging from four to five years., can treat arthritis, rheumatism, gout, cramp, sexually transmitted diseases, boils, and urinary problems. It is also used as relaxant for epilepsy.
  •   The leaves are good for curing headache, bleeding from a shallow cut, and can be used as anti-inflammatory, or cure for gastric ulcers and diarrhea.

  • It helps in strengthening the immune system, control blood pressure, restores skin condition, relieves headache and migraine, reduces inflammation and arthritis pains, manage the sugar level thereby preventing diabetes, restrict growth of tumors and heal ulcers.

  • More importantly, malunggay has the ability to purify water. “The crushed moringa seeds can clear very turbid water,” said Dr. John Sutherland, of Leicester University’s Department of Environmental Technology. He added that powdered malunggay seeds are appropriate for water purification in rural areas of tropical countries like the Philippines.
  •  Planting malunggay trees would also help stabilize soil and contribute to fight against deforestation.

A Dare To Dream... And Make Things Happen...

Philippine President Benigno "Noynoy" Aquino III after reviewing troops during his inauguration as the 15th President of the Philippines in Manila June 30, 2010.

A sight to behold. A day to remember. Our hearts unite in jubilation.  A promise of new beginning for every Filipino here and abroad.

It was a holiday so I was able to watch the historical event from television, the internet, as well as get updates from the newspaper as all the others living far from the capital. Inspite of that, I share the same feeling of elation.

The inaugural speech was impressive in terms of content, voice and delivery. It was full of courage and hope. And though his promises were all too much to believe in... the lines  "The people who are behind us dared to dream. Today, the dream starts to become a reality. Sa inyong mga nag-iisip pa kung tutulong kayo sa pagpasan ng ating krus, isa lang ang aking tanong – kung kailan tayo nanalo, saka pa ba kayo susuko?" gave us the enough challenge to have that faith. Let us remind ourselves not to pin our hopes to just one man.Together we must pray for his leadership. Together we must work for a better Philippines. Together we can make things happen.

And to the new president, Congratulations and God Bless!!!
