coleslaw

Coleslaw has always been one of my favorites among salads and I choose nothing more than the simplest possible way of doing it.

Ingredients:

  • 6 cups shredded cabbage
  • 1 carrot, shredded
  • 2/3 cup mayonnaise
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 2 1/2 tablespoons sugar, or to taste
  • 1/2 teaspoon celery salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt, or to taste

Preparation:

Toss cabbage in a large bowl with the carrots. Whisk together the remaining ingredients. Pour the mixture over the cabbage and carrots and toss to coat thoroughly. Refrigerate until serving time.
Serves 6.

It's smart to switch to low-fat cheese and avoid meats, but stick with regular peanut butter. It's not often we get to say that all the healthy stuff is in the fat. But peanut and other nut butters (as well as nuts that are unsalted and roasted in their own oils) contain polyunsaturated and monounsaturated fats, which can help lower lousy cholesterol (LDL) without lowering healthy cholesterol (HDL). A Harvard study also found that having as little as 5 tablespoons of peanut butter every week also lowers type 2 diabetes risk by 20%. Contrary to rumor, real (made from peanuts alone) peanut butter isn't full of dangerous trans fats, either.

Don't forget peanuts in their original format (they're actually legumes, but don't tell your children). Nuts are the perfect kid snack, particularly for Generation XL (and their pudge-prone parents). Popping a handful a few times a week can prevent both you and your child from getting too chunky. In one study of more than 80,000 women, those who ate nuts two or more times a week were less likely to pack on the pounds over the years, even though nuts are fairly high in calories (165 calories in an ounce of dry-roasted peanuts). One caveat about peanut butter: While the fat is healthy, the sugar isn't. Solve that dilemma by choosing no-sugar varieties, and make your PB&J with low-sugar fruit spreads.

Speechless

Your love is magical, that's how I feel
But I have not the words here to explain
Gone is the grace for expressions of passion
But there are worlds and worlds of ways to explain

To tell you how I feel
But I am speechless, speechless
That's how you make me feel
Though I'm with you I am far away and nothing is for real

When I'm with you I am lost for words, I don't know what to say
My head's spinning like a carousel, so silently I pray
Helpless and hopeless, that's how I feel inside
Nothing's real, but all is possible if God is on my side

When I'm with you I am in the light where I cannot be found
It's as though I am standing in the place called Hallowed Ground
Speechless, speechless, that's how you make me feel
Though I'm with you I am far away and nothing is for real

I'll go anywhere and do anything just to touch your face
There's no mountain high I cannot climb
I'm humbled in your grace
Speechless, speechless, that's how you make me feel

Though I'm with you I am lost for words and nothing is for real
Speechless, speechless, that's how you make me feel
Though I'm with you I am far away, and nothing is for real
Speechless, speechless, that's how you make me feel

Though I'm with you I am lost for words and nothing is for real
SpeechlessYour love is magical, that's how I feel
But in your presence I am lost for words
Words like, "I love you."

The Feast day of St. John the Baptist

The Feast day of St. John the Baptist is different because as most saint's days are commerated on the day of their death, St. John the Baptist feast day is actually his birthday. The Holy Mother the Virgin Mary is the only other Saint commerated in this way.

Liturgical prayer said on the feast of St. John -

O God who hast made this an honored day for us by the birth of saint john the baptist : bestow upon Thy people the grace of spiritual joys, and guide the hearts of all Thy faithful into the way of eternal salvation.

food for thought

Everything is based on mind, is led by mind, is fashioned by mind. If you speak and act with a polluted mind, suffering will follow you, as the wheels of the oxcart follow the footsteps of the ox.

Everything is based on mind, is led by mind, is fashioned by mind. If you speak and act with a pure mind, happiness will follow you, as a shadow clings to a form.

humane

To be a good human being is to have a kind of openness to the world, an ability to trust uncertain things beyond your own control, that can lead you to be shattered in very extreme circumstances for which you were not to blame.

That says something very important about the condition of the ethical life: that it is based on a trust in the uncertain and on a willingness to be exposed; it's based on being more like a plant than like a jewel, something rather fragile, but whose very particular beauty is inseparable from that fragility.

Happy Father's Day to all Fathers around the world

It's been a long while since I have been with my father. He died when I was thirteen but I remember him well. For those thirteen years he played the part well and to this day I have good memories of my papa. For me he was the best. Our time was short but it was enough to build the values deep within me. Guess I'll never be what I am today if not for him.

Here's what I learned about Father’s Day around the World

Many countries around the world celebrate Father's Day, but dates and customs vary.
The roots of Father's Day go all the way back to Babylon. Found among the ruins of that city was a card made out of clay. On it, was a message from a young boy named Elmesu to his father. It was a Father's Day message of good health and a long life, given to his Babylonian father nearly 4,000 years ago.
What happened to Elmesu or his father remains a mystery, but the tradition of honoring fathers' has carried on through the centuries, not only here in the United States, but all over the world.

In countries where the Catholic Church has had an important role within the culture, the Father's Day celebration is held on St. Joseph's Day, which is March 19th.

In modern times, Father’s Day celebrations not associated with any religion have been the pastime in many of countries. Not only does this honor the long-time tradition of celebrating dads, but it also reflects the diversity of the countries and the people within those countries themselves.

bangus kinilaw

It simply is the best for me. Of course you can have the fish of your choice for as long as it is fresh. My personal choice of ingredients aside from bangus fish include lots of vinegar, tomatoes and green onions... a little of salt, black pepper, green pepper to taste. And if i want to add some coconut milk, then i use the vinegar to soak drain the grated coconut. Lastly, mix all the ingredients. You can refrigerate it before serving if you want it chilled.

Watched the movie "Sherlock Holmes" from our DVD  player. Finally got to meet him. Heard of the name since i was small, knew it was supposed to be the name of a famous detective in a book and thought it was a girl's name. Now i know he is a man. Sorry i never had a chance to read those books. Hope to get a chance soon. Did some research and here is what i found:

Sherlock Holmes Biography

Sherlock Holmes was by all accounts born on 6th January 1854, and for more than a century his name has been known in every country of the world; and not only his name, but his appearance too. The hawk-like features and piercing eyes; the dressing-gown and pipe; the deerstalker cap and magnifying glass - these details are so familiar that if he were to appear amongst us today we should know him at once.

He is still however an enigmatic figure, as wrapped in mystery as the crimes he tried to solve, and as in most legends, it is often difficult to separate fact from fiction.

Sherlock Holmes is a Fictional Detective

Born: 1887

Birthplace: Fiction

Best known as: The most famous detective in English literature

Sherlock Holmes is the fictional creation of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, who wrote about the detective in a series of 60 stories published between 1887 and 1927. Holmes was famous for his extra-keen powers of observation and deduction, which he used to solve perplexing crimes and mysteries. He is assisted by his friend Dr. Watson. The nefarious criminal Professor Moriarty appears as Holmes's antagonist in some of the tales. Sherlock Holmes was an immediate hit in Doyle's day and remains so popular that he is sometimes mistaken for a real historical figure. Among the most famous Holmes stories are A Study in Scarlet (the first Sherlock Holmes story, 1887) and The Hound of the Baskervilles (1902).

Extra credit: Holmes was played by actor Basil Rathbone in a popular series of movies from 1939-46. In the 1980s and 1990s Holmes was portrayed on television by Jeremy Brett... Holmes has an older brother, Mycroft, who appears in a few of the stories. Mycroft has powers of deduction which are supposedly even greater than Sherlock's, but lacks the energy to pursue them.

Sherlock Holmes and Doctor Watson lived at 221b Baker Street between 1881-1904, according to the stories written by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. The famous 1st floor study overlooking Baker Street is still faithfully maintained as it was kept in Victorian Times.

Step back in time, and when you visit London, remember to visit the world's most famous address!
The Sherlock Holmes Museum is open every day (except Christmas Day) 9.30 am -6pm. Wish i could do so.

phonecall

Why do I always miss phonecalls?

I am not very keen on answering phonecalls. As a result, I miss some important ones. Phonecalls at midnight...  I do miss them because my cellphone is in silent mode. Lately, my conscience tells me I am doing wrong. Forgive me... but I guess it's just out of habit. A very bad habit. Somewhere along the way, for some reason I lost interest on my phone.

I read from one of the blogs getting phonecalls is one of the best things in life, even midnight calls or unexpected calls. Maybe I could learn to be keen in paying attention to my cellphone again.

Carrie

When light goes down,
I see no reason
For you to cry.
We've been through this before

In every time
in every season,
God knows I've tried
So please don't ask for more.

Can't you see it in my eyes
This might be our last goodbye
Carrie, Carrie, things they change my friend
Carrie, Carrie, maybe we'll meet again

I read your mind, with no intentions
Of being unkind, I wish I could explain
It all takes time, a whole lot of patience
If it's a crime, how come I feel no pain.

It is originally  by Europe. Pilipinas got talent winner Jovit Baldivino sang it once. It sounds real good on him and now that I have read the lines I find a lot of meaning in it. I say it's one of the best ways of saying goodbye...  I also do admire him as a sixteen year old. He may not be that good as compared to the singers he idolizes but the fact that he stood out from the rest of his competitors means he is the most promising. Well, Congratulations Jovit!!!  More power to you... And thanks for making the song popular once more... I just love your version of it! Guess it is just what I've been looking for... it just fits better than "farewell" ... hmmm. I can't sing it myself, but atleast I could listen to you...

PILIPINAS GOT TALENT (GRAND FINALS) - JOVIT BALDIVINO (TOO MUCH LOVE WIL...

Artist : Brian May

I'm just the pieces of the man I used to be
Too many bitter tears are raining down on me
I'm far away from home
And I've been facing this alone for much too long

I feel like no-one ever told the truth to me
About growing up and what a struggle it would be
In my tangled state of mind
I've been looking back to find where I went wrong

Too Much Love Will Kill You
if you can't make up your mind
Torn between the lover and the love you leave behind
You're headed for disaster 'cos you never read the signs
Too Much Love Will Kill You - every time

I'm just the shadow of the man I used to be
And it seems there's no way out of this for me
I used to bring you sunshine
Now all I ever do is bring you down

How would it be if you were standing in my shoes
Can't you see that it's impossible to choose
No there's no making sense of it
Every way I go I have to lose

Too Much Love Will Kill You
just as sure as none at all,
It'll drain the power that's in you
Make sure you plead and scream and crawl
And the pain will make you crazy
You're the victim of your crime
Too Much Love Will Kill You - every time

Too Much Love Will Kill You
It'll make your life a lie
Yes, Too Much Love Will Kill You
And you won't understand why

You'd give your life you'd sell your soul
But here it comes again
Too Much Love Will Kill You
In the end.......
In the end.

Wow!!! I believe it is one of the best songs ever been created. It's just an old song but it is once more famous in the Philippines as it is the winning piece of Pilipinas Got Talent winner Jovit Baldivino. I could say I am a fan...

i am sorry

i am sorry that i am not perfect
i am sorry for making some lies
i am sorry if i hurt you so deep
i am sorry if i did ignore your needs

i am sorry for being irrational
i am sorry for being emotional
i am sorry for being insensitive
i am sorry if i made you cry

i am sorry for the things i've done
i am sorry if you can't forgive me

i am sorry i may not see you again

i am sorry that maybe you hate me so

now that i said i'm sorry
atleast we can start anew
we can make things right
so as not to say i'm sorry... everytime

Saying i'm sorry seem to be the hardest thing to do but once it is said gives the person a lot of peace deep within. I myself am not fond of saying so. I feel like I just can't get off my pride. But then your conscience will tell you... you can't go on that way. So that we really have to say these words and make peace within our own selves... So if I have done you anything wrong, i am sorry my friend...
