Crooked... crooked... crooked

Got some bad news the other day which made me upset...

As i was mooning over it for sometime i remember a nursery rhyme we used to recite in chorus during my primary school years. I am sure some of you may have learned the four original lines as written below...

there was a crooked man who walked a crooked mile

he found a crooked sixpence upon a crooked stile

he bought a crooked cat, which caught a crooked mouse

and they all live together in a little crooked house

somehow it lightened my mood thinking of the fun i had reciting it as a six year old simply imagining visions of crooked lines and crooked creatures as mentioned in the rhyme. Seeing how i had viewed and related the very same crooked things in it to all the crooked and unlikely things in life now that i am older has given a different view of not only the rhyme but the authors purpose in writing it.

I thought of sharing it then unto my blog. First i did some research since i am not so sure if i remember the lines exactly, only to find out the content has basis originating from the english stuart history of King CharlesI.

The crooked man is reputed to be the scottish general Sir Edward Leslie. Allegedly, he signed a covenant securing religious and political freedom for Scottland.

The crooked stile referred to the borderline between England and Scottland. They all lived together in a crooked house referred to the fact that english and scots had at last come to an agreement.

So that, from the very start this nursery rhyme has some very serious meaning within and thinking i hadn't made a mistake in relating it to real life situations. Then, somebody by the name of Akara K. created a twisted version of the poem adding three more stanzas to it and retaining the original rhyme as the first stanza. Here goes the additional stanzas...

he met a crooked woman and found a crooked preach

they had a crooked marriage on a crooked little beach

they had some crooked children and lived a crooked life

the crooked man, the cat, the mouse, the children and the wife

they were happy for a number of crookedly long years

lived a life of crooked happiness, no worries and no fears

until one day the crooked wife upset the crooked man

he yelled a crooked yell and then he hit her and he ran

the crooked man came again at the stroke of twelve

that was when their crooked life became a living hell

there was a crooked man and he waked a crooked mile

and when he killed his wife and kids he smiled a crooked smile

Now it does'nt have a happy ending and i think the second author is talking simply of a family with all its complications...But going back to where I started, guess there will always be some kind of crooked thing about life there to make us all the more appreciate the good things about it. Have a nice day pals...

bits and pieces

one day a friend introduced to me
a thing called blog which made me see
how so naive i've come to be
to this world so blessed with technology

so i made a blogspot for myself successfully
i named it "bits and pieces... for you and me"
my mind in rumble honestly...
for i do not know how this is gonna be

next thing i need is a blog... OMG!
i thought and thought,
said anything can be
but all the more it boggles me

mind keeps turning
like a wheel it's spinning
thoughts of giving up
came all so tempting

but no matter how, no matter what
i just have to learn this thing called blog
i musn't stop, i must go on
just said to myself... "hold on"

it was a struggle with desperation
what am i doing? i must keep going
finally something got to my attention
thoughts filled my poor imagination

alas! it was done... my first creation
i posted my blog, can it be true
there goes the first of my bits and pieces
i've got to believe coz my eyes can see it

as thoughts came in about things in life
i see things have changed, i can almost feel it
blogging is a part of me, now that i learned to do it
a part of you, a part of me,
and soon everyone else can share it

This is a poem i specially created about my first blogging experience and my way of saying thanks to my friend sheila for unselfishly sharing her knowledge. GodBless and enjoy blogging....

Earth Week

Let's do our share, preserve this planet
Not only this day but everyday
So that in turn the earth provides a source of life
A life we share with everyone
So... What have i done, what can i do?
Well, just keeping it clean and making it green will do
I guess it goes the same for me and you
"live and let live" as the saying goes
For the love of life and love for all
May the Good Lord Bless and keep us all
HAPPY EARTH WEEK!!!

Judges want "Worst Actress" trophy back???

What's this, folks? It is not enough that some award giving body has the guts to humiliate a person by awarding her as the "worst actress" , now they have the heart to ask her to return the trophy not because they changed their minds about her deserving the award but because they made a mistake of giving a collector's item. For me that is doubly rude... Reportedly co-founder of the Razzie Awards has taken to the media to ask America's Sweetheart" Sandra Bullock, one of the top grossing actresses of the nineties, to return the award she won last month for Worst Actress. Said they got so caught up in the spur of the moment that instead of giving Bullock the intentionally cheap (it's worth a whopping $4.79), spray-painted replica of the award that all winners receive, the Razzies organizers say they inadvertently handed Bullock the original 30-year-old trophy. Given its age and rarity, the original has much more value as a collector's item. Bullock famously showed up to accept her Worst Actress award for her role in the box-office bomb, "All About Steve," bringing with her hundreds of "Steve" DVDs and promising to return the award if the Razzie judges changed their minds after watching the movie. The next day, Bullock won the Best Actress Oscar for "The Blind Side," making her the only person ever to win both an Oscar and a Razzie in the same year. The Razzie judges haven't changed their mind about Bullock's performance in "All About Steve" - they just want the actual trophy back. Now that's rare hapenning! But... don't you think they deserve the "worst award-giving body" award instead? Well, you better think about it, but do forgive me 'coz I like Sandra, and my mind says "I do think so.

Oooops... are you young and fashionable?

Being young and fashionable specially for summer is cool. Not that i got the chance to do so... But there might be someone out there wanting to give it a try.

Fashion designers create and produce more and more clothing articles for young and old ones.

Let us find out if we could get some trendy idea for us....

Womens clothing and apparel follow the so called "trends of time." Although many fashions are popular in many cultures at any given time, the trend changes so quickly and we must keep up to fit in with what is new.
Glamour, beauty and style goes with wearing what is fashionable. But we will always have the freedom and choice to follow these trends or stay the way we choose to be. So, are you fashionable and trendy? Or do you even prefer to be fashionable enough this days?

Anyhow, here are some tips I happen to stumble upon the net for those of our trendy young girls out there.
  • first, figure out your kind of style wether you like to be sporty, preppy, trendy, or girly

  • next, look for tops. You might like to have a lot of sequins, or a lot of color

  • lastly, for bottoms skinny jeans are surely hot, or you can choose skirts with plaid, skirts with a different colored leggings and embellished jeans

You can go to http://www.videojug.com/film/hot-fashion-trends-for-young-girls for more info. Sorry i can't get the video for you.

Whatever style you choose to wear don't forget to keep it simple, be true to yourself and always wear that beautiful smile. Surely, you can be as fashionable as you want it to be.

AMETHYST

Do you like gemstones? I am pretty sure one of you does. Let's take a look at one of them. This one's got my fancy because of it's beauty and color. I really like the purple color, tried to find the mystery behind it's beauty. And so allow me to share it with you for my first blog...

Accordingly, the word is of Greek origin meaning "not drunken." A symbol of sincerity and stability the unique purple shades of this gem have been declared the "Rose de France" and has been set even today in victorian jewelry.

Amethyst origin resides with the god Dionysus (Bacchus) and the goddess Diana. Dionysus, the god of wine, celebrations, intoxication and jovialty, found insult by a mortal who had refused him acknowledgement. Enraged with anger he vowed to unleash his fury upon all mortals who did not partake in his gifts of wine and drunkenness. He immediately spotted a young maiden named Amethyst who happened to be pure and unfamiliar with being intoxicated.

Dionysus detained the young virgin on her way to pay homage to goddess Diana and summoned two fiercely voracious tigers to devour her while he sat back with his wine to watch. Poor Amethyst cried out to Diana for help. Quickly, goddess Diana transformed the young mortal into a statue of pure crystalline quartz to protect her from the vicious wrath of Dionysus. At the sight of the beautiful statue Dionysus realized the ruthlessness of his actions and began to wept in remorse. As the tears dripped into his goblet Dionysus collapsed and the tear-tainted wine ran out unto the glimmering stone, stained its color, and thus became purple.

That was the mythical side of it, now for a little bit of historical background, purple has long been considered a royal color. Leonardo Da Vinci wrote that amethyst was able to dissipate evil thoughts and quicken the intelligence.Because Amethyst was thought to encourage celibacy and symbolize piety, it was very important in the ornamentation of catholic churches and considered to be the stone of bishops in the middle ages.

Amethyst was considered to be a strong antidote against drunkenness and the gemstone symbolize sobriety. Ceremonial wine is frequently drunk from goblets fashioned from it.The birthstone for February and the gemstone for the astrological sign Pieces. One of the most popular semi-precious gems said to calm passions and aid in meditations, healing, restful sleep, good dreams, and protection against witchcraft.

There goes the legend behind amethyst gem my friends. Glad I learned something about it myself. Hope you enjoyed my sharing it with you.
